Community focus drives strong economy

With its rich farming heritage and natural beauty the Wimmera Southern Mallee is a region driven by community.

Opportunities in renewable energy, tourism, logistics and agriculture are expanding, along with those in supporting services. Employers are looking for more workers in sectors from banking, finance, legal, retail, through to machinery sales and servicing, health care, education, agronomics, and grains research and development.

At the same time, the Victorian Government is ensuring Wimmera Southern Mallee communities continue to be ideal places to live, work and invest by delivering a range of improvements to public transport, country roads, tourism infrastructure and health facilities, and through initiatives such as Free TAFE for priority courses.

The 2019-20 Budget provides further tax relief for rural and regional businesses, with the regional payroll tax rate to be reduced to 25 per cent of the metropolitan rate by 2022-23.

Families in Hindmarsh, North Grampians and Yarriambiack will be among the first to benefit from the roll out of universal three-year-old kinder next year, while locals will also benefit from the upgrade of Lord Nelson Park in St Arnaud and improved facilities at Longrenong college, outside of Horsham.
